Pigskin upper leather shoes?

hi! does anyone know how to differentiate pigskin upper leather shoes from other type of leather (lamb or cow)?

Pigskin upper leather shoes?
You cannot tell just by look unless there is no type of finish on the leather. In shoes however this is unlikely and the only way to tell would be with a microscope as the formation of hair follicels is different in each animal.

Where to buy true high top court shoes?

I need padded leather uppers in something like Converse Chucks. Can%26#039;t seem to find them, only modified mids that don%26#039;t give any ankle support. Converse only seems to offer %26quot; fashion %26quot; canvas CTs. Help?

Where to buy true high top court shoes?
The best basketball shoe ever made was the original Air Jordan.

The second generation Air Jordan, the next year, got everyone out of making real high tops which provide excellent ankle protection. I guess NBA teams like their players to have a lot of ankle injuries.

As far as Chuch Taylors, when that company got sold, so did the concept of the old Chuch Taylors.

I don%26#039;t know if he was the last NBA player to wear Chuch Taylors; however, %26quot;Mr. K%26quot;, former teammate of Dr. J at the Nets, in former San Antonio Spurs forward Larry Kenon (record for most steals in one NBA game) and a constant 20/10 player in scoring and rebounding seemingly wore Chuch Taylors into the 1980s while everyone else was wearing mainly Nike, etc... at the time.

If you have patience please read this story that I wrote. A bit long, but I wanna know what you think of it?

Fallen Angel. Chapter one. In search of Identity.

--------------------------------------...

%26quot;My eyes opened and I realized I was resting on a soft bed. I was covered with a soft baby blue blanket. The birds chirpedrhythmically, and the sunlight reflectedfrom the window adjacent from the bed was hurting my eyes. I squinted as I looked upon it, but it really didn%26#039;t helprelieve the pain at all. The pain felt as if I was looking directly at a flashlight. I could easily tell the time of day was morning. I sat up on the bed and looked around the bedroom, the walls were painted pink, the drawers and bookshelves standing opposite of the window were just as blue as the blanket that I hadjust pulled off. The room was unfamiliar to me. I wondered how I got here, but I could not recall anything that occurred before this present point, nothing at all.

I got out of bed and there was a somewhat loud clanking sound coming from the polished wooden floor. I looked down and saw a silver heart shaped pendant bonded with small silver chains. I bent over and picked up the locket. It was two and a half inches long, and it gleamed and shimmered like precious diamonds in the sunlight behind me. I turned the heart shaped locket and saw a small clasp. I opened the locket and saw a photo of a young woman on the left who seemed to be wearing a purple dress robe. Next to her on the right was a little girl, wearing similar clothing except she wore pink instead of purple. Both of them had long black hair and they were smiling at each other. I glanced at the little girl again, and although the child seemed so cute, she also seemed very familiar. There was a mirror adjacent to the door in front of me. I saw my own reflection in the mirror. I realized that I had black hair just like the two people in the photo, wearing a white T-Shirt and white shorts, I also saw in the mirror that I had no shoes on. Then I looked at the little girl in the picture again. That little girl’s face and hair are somewhat similar to mine. On the left side of the locket I saw a something printed on the silver metal. The upper left corner of the heart locket was a name that was printed “Fallen angel” and in the middle there was date carved into the locket saying

20 December 1995

The date on the locket caught my attention. I wondered why the date was even printed there. What happened on that day? Why is it so significant? I also wondered who the young woman is in the photo, and if the little girl next to her is really me. The door in front of me knocked unexpectedly. I just watched and glared at it, then seconds later the door opened. The one who knocked on the door was a young woman, wearing a white dress and I also noticed a white apron she was wearing that seemed to blend in. Her rectanglular glasses were completely crooked, it looks as if it was about to fall off her face. Her face was completely dirty, and her crimson hair looked as if it were never brushed for weeks perhaps months. Her emerald eyes came into contact with mine, and said to me in a somewhat squeaky voice.

“Hello, you’re awake”

I continued to glare at her, and remind silent.

“What’s your name?” said the woman, smiling lightly “My name is Solana Frostly.”

Unfortunately I didn’t have an answer to that question. I felt pretty stupid not knowing my own name, so I remained silent and continued to stare at her.

“Um, you don’t talk much do you?” said Solana, timidly. “My daughter Aiyana found you in the forest out cold so we took you in our home and we kept you warm and placed you in her room. Um….. Are you feeling okay?”

I nodded lightly, and whispered.

“Yes”

“I’m glad to hear it!” said Solana, smiling brightly. “Come downstairs, I made some breakfast. When you finished eating we can call your parents. How old are you by the way”

“T-Tw-Twelve” I answered a little unsure of myself.

“Oh that’s great!” Said Solana, “Aiyana is just about you age- Well, perhaps. She’ll be turning twelve in a few days, so I’m sure you two would get along just fine. Now please come downstairs for some breakfast. I’m not sure if there is any breakfast left, I didn’t expect you to be awake at this time. After breakfast we’ll call your parents, they must be worried sick about you. So we’ll just let them know that you’re okay”

Solana turned around and left. Seconds later, I got up off the floor, where I was sitting, left the room and went down the stairs. After I reached the first floor, I heard a voice calling to me.

“Hey, over here! We saved you some breakfast”

I turned to where the voice is coming from. It was Solana and another girl who had long scarlet hair just like Solana’s in a kitchen. I walked inside the kitchen where the girl sat at a circular wooden table that was near a corner of the kitchen. The table had a large plate with a layer of pancakes on a white ceramic plate and a bottle of maple syrup sitting there. I gagged at the odor of burnt food. The sink next to me were piled with dirty dishes. There were shards of broken glass on the white tile floors. I almost stepped on them, while I was still barefoot. Solana was near an oven holding a silver metal spatula, jumping and shrieking hysterically trying to put out the flames that bloomed from the stove just a second ago. I sat at the table where the girl sat. I glared at her for a moment. The girl looked back at me and smiled.

“Oh hello,” She said quickly, “Don’t mind my Mom, she’s very clumsy when it comes to housekeeping. As you can see, she’s not always the best cook. Although she’s very clumsy and careless, she has her moments. She’s only like this when she’s stressed out. It’s very typical for adults.Other than that she’s a great cook. Oh, I’m so sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Aiyana.”

Aiyana reached out her right hand towards me.

I looked at her hand. I wondered what she made that gesture for. I continued to stare at it.

“What’s your name” She asked.

My eyes were drawn from her hand to her face. It’s that question again. I was gnawing my bottom lip, trying hard to remember, but it was impossible. All I could do now is give Aiyana a light shrug. Aiyana frowned.

“I tried asking her the same thing,” said Solana finally finished extinguishing the flames on the stove, “but she wouldn’t tell me. She must be shy, let’s give her some time to relax a bit. Aiyana pumpkin, go to the living room and find the phone. I think it’s time we call her parents. And turn on the computer on your way back here, and look up something on missing children”

Aiyana looked at her mother and nodded. She got up off her chair and left the kitchen. Now my attention is drawn to Solana, who smiled at me, placed some pancakes on the plate in front of me and said,

“Please eat some pancakes, they’re really tasty. I don’t want you to go hungry. I’ll give you a fork and a glass of orange juice.”

Solana handed me a silver metal fork, with four prongs and the flower design carved on the brown wooden handle. She also grasped the bottle of maple syrup and poured its sticky brown contents on the plate of pancakes. I looked down and stared at it.

“Hmm,” said Solana. “It seems that you have never tasted pancakes before. Just cut a piece off and eat it.

I looked up at Solana once more, remembering what Aiyana told me earlier, that she isn’t always the best cook. I assumed that these pancakes of hers would not taste very pleasant. I found Solana as a very kind person and the last thing I want to do is offend her. With my assumption set aside, I grabbed the fork that was previously placed on the table, Cut off a piece of the pancake and placed it into my open mouth. My bottom jaw made contact with my upper one, while moving in a clockwise position. The food was soft and tasted sugary. While eating it I had this pleasant feeling, I assumed that the pancakes would taste horrible, but it was the opposite. I looked up at Solana again and smiled. Solana smiled back at me.

Reply:How about you post your work on fictionpress.com? It%26#039;s a really writer-friendly website, where you%26#039;ll get opinions and reviews. Then you don%26#039;t have to bother with putting the entire story on here.
Reply:It%26#039;s pretty good, although I do hav a few suggestions:

1. You jump into the part with the locket a little too quickly, putting too much emphasis on it. It makes the writing seem a bit hasty and immature. When reading, you can immediately tell that the locket is a vital part to the story, which you probably don%26#039;t want to make too clear. Long story short, don%26#039;t go into so much detail about it. Instead, make it seem a minor detail of her day and write as little as possible about it. If necessary, have her look at it again some other time to describe it in more detail.

2. You have repeated some words too many times, such as %26quot;her%26quot;. Try not to do this.

3. Don%26#039;t describe everything in too much detail, as this can give unwanted details and add length. If you do this too often, it can make your writing seem a little overdeveloped.

Other than these few minor details, you have written a very nice piece. Keep up the good work!
Reply:Like most of the crap on here of this sort, it%26#039;s not very good. Your little peers will fall all over themselves telling you how good it is, but let%26#039;s face it, they don%26#039;t know any more than YOU do about writing and what makes a good story. Trust me. It%26#039;s not very good.
Reply:I think it%26#039;s a great start to a story. It needs a little tweaking here and there but otherwise it held my attention and I would like to read more.

If i have high arch .. and i want to buy shoe ... is this good details for high arch ..? below ..?
I have a high arch also, which means that I have to have good arch support and cushioning as well as motion control so that I do not supernate or overpronate while in motion.

Asics is a bit too narrow for my forefoot, so my first choice is Saucony; but the support systems on this Asics sound great and the lighter weight materials are a plus. Any Asics style in wides are then too wide in the heel area for my feet.

Your best bet would be to try them on in a reputable sportshoe store and take them home for a trial period. Most stores will take back footwear that does not work out for the customers needs. I have taken new footwear to a local indoor track for a trial run in order to not get them too dirty and have not had a problem returning them if necessary.
Reply:all the shoes have different names for their coushoining system, but they all work good. some shoes are lighter than others, but it depends what type of shoe it is. its more important to look for a light racing shoe; training shoes don%26#039;t have to be 9oz or less to work for you.

I work at a specialty running store in California and im also a competitive runner. I have worked with running shoes for years and know that brands like asics, brooks, new balance, nike, misuno, adidas, sacony and a few others have great long distance running shoes. It all depends on what type of shoe you need (neutral, stability and motion control) and how you want it to feel. If you over pronate (your feet and/or ankle role inward) than you need a shoe with some stability (stability=grey material on the inner arc of the shoe or with mizuno is more radical wave like on the Inspire) to support your foot so it can run neutrally. A neutral shoe has white all around the base and is for people who supinate (roll out while toeing off) or for people who don’t over pronate. Motion control is for people who over pronate like crazy or for rare conditions like surgery on the foot.

Each brand caries all three types of shoes; they just feel different for each brand.

Asics and Brooks are two brands that have a happy medium feel where most of the population will buy a shoe from them so it’s safe to by from them and if you don’t like them; try New Balance.

Fit:

This is a list of what foot type usually works with each brand (this is not always right, but it is most of the time).

Adidas: high arc

Sacony: high arc

Nike: normal to high arc

Asics: normal to high arc

Brooks: normal to low arc

Mizunno: normal to low arc

New Balance: low arc

Price:

When you buy a running shoe the price should be about $85 and up for a new style. If you go to an all-a-round sports store, the shoe should cost $65 and up unless you’re buying an Asics 2110 for $45. The shoes around $100 dollars usually are lighter and last longer. A good place to buy shoes is the running center or www.runningcenters.com

Shoe life:

Depending on your weight and how you run, the shoe should last about 400-500 miles until you need a new pair. Running on worn-out shoes is one of the best ways to get injured. I have see shoes last about 900, but don’t chance it.

I have a high arc and a couple shoes work for me.

I currently run in asics (DS trainers), nike (Vomero), New Balance (1061) with a DS trainer liner. I race in adidas (adizero). I still want a pair of the new brooks (Adrenalin) and I know they work for me and feel good.

I use different shoes for different workouts; that’s why I have so many (I also work at a running store so get a BIG discount and some are free for testing^_^).

I can say more but im positive this has answered your question (if you read it all).
Reply:i cant tell you what brand, but i bought some insoles for my arch and they were name brand. the most important thing is that they feel comfortable. it really doesnt matter the brand of shoe so much as they feel comfortable. i bought a pair of asics and theyve lasted me for about a year now. best shoes ive ever owned.

Reply:Yeah! Give them a brush/rub down to get any lumps of dirt off. Put some of that hard, tinned shoe polish on a shoe brush or a rag and rub it over the shoes. Give the shoes a brush over/rub over with another different clean brush or rag.

That%26#039;s it. Takes a couple of minutes max.

If you really want to push the boat out spend a quid on a shoe shiner. It%26#039;s a six inch block already impregnanted with shiny stuff. After you%26#039;ve brushed or rubbed the shoes, wipe the shiner over them to make them a bit glossy (bit like a silicone spray for your hair).

Any tips on how to clean/dry canvas? Particularly shoes?

I%26#039;m trying to clean a pair of Chuck Taylor Converse high-tops. They aren%26#039;t particularly filthy, just your basic everyday dust and dirt. Bleach worked well on the white rubber bits, but I%26#039;m having trouble getting the random dirt and smudges out of the canvas uppers. They%26#039;re the pink color, and have been screen-printed with black designs, if that matters. (Don%26#039;t you love eBay?)

Also, if I blow-dry them so that they don%26#039;t take as long to dry, will I risk altering the state of the canvas or rubber?

Any tips on how to clean/dry canvas? Particularly shoes?
Use talcum powder or light kaolin dry on the canvas. Rub in well with a dry sponge, leave for a while then vacuum off.

The dirt is absorbed onto the surface of the talc / kaolin and is removed by the vacuum.

Don%26#039;t use water or solvents.

Water may shrink or cockle the canvas and solvents may interfere with the printing.

If you use this method drying is not a problem.

Any %26quot;Natural%26quot;, %26quot;Simple%26quot; or untreated / unperfumed talc will do. Baby talc is often the cheapest.
Reply:The new Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean is AWESOME for cleaning sneakers, even the rubber part of the soles. Takes out all stains!
Reply:Canvas has a particular nature, which it could develop fungus, smell and mildew if you don;t clean it correctly. Some people would recommend front tube washing machine but don;t do it,since it is only good for sneakers.

What you should do is:

1.Soak them in a bucket of Cold water, dilute some 50gr of mild laundry detergent.

2.Let them for 15 minutes.

3.Brush the upper (non printed part)with the toothbrush with the soapy water.

4.Brush the sole part with rougher brush with the soapy water.

5.For the printed part, wipe it with the chamois cloth (the one that you use for wiping the car)

6.Rinse it with clean water 2 times (you can do it by putting under the running water tap.or by putting it up and down to the bucket of water).

5.Then,shake it virogously, like crazy to get rid of the rest of the water.

6.Put them under/in front of the fan,for quite some time, untill it lost around 60% of the humidity.

7.Let them in the open air,not in the direct sunlight, since if it is under 80% dried,it could cause permanent water spot.

8.If it is around 80% dried, you could put it under direct sunlight till 100%,especially for the ultraviolet ray to kill the seed of the fungus.

9.Usually even the outer surface is 100% dry,doesn%26#039;t mean the inner part is 100% dry too. Then you can use the hair-dryer for the inner part, since it won%26#039;t alter anything.

So much bothering,isn%26#039;t it.Good luck.

After my third week jogging, is it normal for my legs and back to feel stressed?

I started jogging (at my own pace) 2 weeks ago. I feel a strain mainly on my knees and my upper back. I noticed my socks were moving as I walked/jogged. When I got home my feet felt as though I had worn tight shoes to work. Maybe I am jogging wrong? I also stretch before, during and after my jog. What kind of stretching should I be doing? Sorry so many questions! Please help!

After my third week jogging, is it normal for my legs and back to feel stressed?
I see a ton of running related injuries in my line of work. The biggest problem is overuse. You shouldn%26#039;t be running everyday, especially if you%26#039;re new to the sport. Mix up your cardio work-out. Also, your shoes will make a world of difference, have your arch measured and buy a quality shoe that fits your foot. You%26#039;ll be surprised how much stress and pain that will go away. As far as stretching, concentrate on shins, calves, hamstrings and quadriceps. But try to do a light warm-up exercise before you stretch, you%26#039;ll find that your muscles will loosen up more when you%26#039;ve used them a bit. Good luck!
Reply:I also started jogging for about four months. I guess I wasn%26#039;t doing it properly because I ended up getting swollen ankles and legs with a really sore back, and couldn%26#039;t walk for days. I was crying in pain and living on painkillers. :( I%26#039;m no expert, but I do recommend that you do get expert advice especially if you%26#039;re just new to it.

But for me, yes, after a few weeks, my legs and back were feeling strained.
Reply:Go to a real runners store and get fitted for the right shoe...can make a huge difference. I have had a variety of shin/ankle/foot issues running over the years but no back or knee problems...it%26#039;s hard to describe the stretches you should be doing...I do very light stretching before I run...gilrs need more stretching I have read...pick up a runners mag or book, there will be pics in them. Good luck
Reply:Congrats on the exercise program! Anyway, the right shoes are crucial, you need some with great support and shoe store can help you find the right ones, that should cut down on some of the knee and back pain. If not, it depends on the exercise itself, if you are running a lot cut back to about two or three times a week. Too much can cause the muscle aches as well if you are not taking enough time to rest the muscles in between workouts. Do some calf and hamstring stretches and alway the achilles tendon in foot. ALso stretch the back, if still hurts, take two tylenol twenty mins before run! GOOD LUCK!!!!

How do you get ballet-style high heels to stay up?

I recently bought a pair of high heel shoes that have the long ribbons to lace up your leg, but once you criss-cross them around your leg a few times and tie it in a bow at the top, they fall down once you start to walk because the upper part of your leg is wider than the bottom, so the laces fall down. Does anyone know how you keep the lacing to stay up? tape?

How do you get ballet-style high heels to stay up?
The ribbons need to go up just higher than the thick part of your calf...just below the knee. That way, your calf holds them up. If they don%26#039;t reach, stick to lacing them around your ankles.
Reply:maybe you should try lacing them tighter or just wrap the lacing around your ankles not all the way up. that will look cute, too.
Reply:I love those kind of shoes!!!!

I%26#039;ve just finished 3 yeas of 6th form (Yeah I know most people do 2 years, but I did retakes) Anyway...

Any kind of shoes work......anything casual

Jeans work well, I pretty much lived my 6th form in jeans.

Just casual tshirts work...plain is popular and just throw on a jacket and you%26#039;re sorted - People don%26#039;t really worry about how they look in college, everyone has their own style And no one cares :)

And yeah girls wear casual flat shoes too, they don%26#039;t wear heels lol - they might for the first few weeks, then work out that typical casual flat shoes work just fine lol

In the college I went to anyway :)

you%26#039;ll find the teachers are called by their first names too and if you call them %26quot;sir%26quot; they%26#039;ll look at you funny lol - I went to college/ 6th form college, not a 6th form that was part of a school

What size should i get my chucks in?

Im thinking about ordering some Converse Chuck Taylor® All Star® Double Upper Hi online and i cant remember if the shoes run big or small. I wear a size 9 and my feet are wide.

What size should i get my chucks in?
They don%26#039;t run big at all, they%26#039;re MEN%26#039;S sizes. Subtract two from your shoe size and that%26#039;s your size in men%26#039;s, and that%26#039;s what you should get.

In the 80's it was cool to have crotchet shoes I desperately want a pattern for them?

The shoes I am talking about were worn in the same era as bubblegum Jeans. They had a foam rubber sole and were crocheted onto a piece of vinyl or leather which was then glued to the sole.

There were many types but they were mainly white cotton crotchet with beads in the upper toe area. They were fastened with either a tie that came from the back heel area through the front and around the ankle or in a mary jane style with a buckle on the outer side of each shoe.

I would really love a pattern for these shoes or a varient, I had heaps of them when I was young, I would love to make them for my little girls.

aslo where can you buy ready made foam shoe soles?

I would love some answers thanks for helping!

As for where to get the foam. I would try Joann Fabrics or any craft store should have it. Or just crochet the sole using heavier yarn or 2 strands. They would be great as inside shoes for school or church in winter where you wear boots outside.

Why is it illegal to beat up a hybrid car driver?

can there be a more stuck up, self serving, egotystical person on the road. with i hate suv, and anti war or bush bumper stickers and some cute vanity plate claiming there gas mileage. these people pis me off!!! congrats you bought a sardine can that will cost you thousands in up keep due to your baterey cells and if you get hit by my SUV it will smear you into a spot on the highway at any speed! ok you LOVE the enviroment and you fill up once a month your choice thats is fine but shut the %26quot;f%26quot; up about it. maybe i am married with a family and we can not fit into a shoe sized car that goes 40 on the highway!!!

Reply:For the same reason it would be anyone else.
Reply:One reason I think they seem to have an attitude like you describe, is YOUR attitude.

Personally, I don%26#039;t have a hybrid yet, but my next car will certainly be one. I grew up in a large family, and somehow or other we managed to get by with a basic 4-door sedan and didn%26#039;t actually need a 3-ton steel tank to shuttle us around town. Whenever I see one of these 11 mpg soccer-moms pull into a gas station to shell out $75., I shake my head in dismay and sympathy.

I also don%26#039;t choose a car with %26#039;surviving collisions%26#039; as my main reason. I actually feel that avoiding a crash is better than riding in a tank to survive a crash.

As for highway driving, you apparently haven%26#039;t been paying attention. Your basic hybrid sedan can now cruise at about 70 mph, and can do so for over 500 miles on a single tank of gas.

Do they brag and gloat? Maybe they do, but it%26#039;s people like you who talk about smearing them into a spot on the highway and who can%26#039;t seem to conceive of an alternative to their fuel-guzzling houses on wheels that motivates them.
Reply:Perhaps you should stop reproducing. I%26#039;m tired of married people with 2, 3, 4, 5 kids complaining about how they can%26#039;t afford gas for the guzzlers, food for their litter of children, electricity, clothes, entertainment, etc. This is what happens when you over-reproduce.

I will admit, however, that I feel this way about people with %26quot;Support the Troops%26quot; ribbons on their giant SUVs. I%26#039;d really like to slap some reason into them. If you want to support the troops, ride your bicycle or drive an economical car. The war is about oil and money and power, just like your SUV, which helps create the problem, not solve it.
Reply:i%26#039;m sorry that you%26#039;re pissed off cause you can%26#039;t afford to do your part in the up keep of our ATMOSPHERE...it%26#039;s not anyone elses fault...i drive a hybrid and i invite you to slap me around and prepare yourself to have your face smacked off...don%26#039;t be jealous about the gas mileage either you wanna drive around in a big asss suv are you conserving ANY energy...how many people do you give rides too??? i bet you ride in that big asss bus all by yourself huh?? cause you%26#039;re an asss hole and have no friends and care nothing about this earth which by the way is the ONLY ONE we have...
Reply:I hope you don%26#039;t really have a family. Judging by the 70 spelling errors in two whopping paragraphs of text, I%26#039;d say you%26#039;re intellect is not up to the task of raising children (or entering a debate about alternative fuel sources.)
Reply:don%26#039;t be mad at them be mad at the ones who control the prices after all who cares is the american way. and suck this is there answer.
Reply:Just because some people actually are trying to save the environment from gas guzzling tanks that deplete resources and pollute the earth doesn%26#039;t mean you have to get all defensive.
Reply:It%26#039;s illegal to beat up a hybrid car driver for the same reason it%26#039;s illegal to beat up an SUV driver.
Reply:It helps the sake of mental sanity of other drivers, who will not patience on those sufocating hybrids. According to law someone is permitted to be rude to others but must not show privileges of conduct before affected drivers. It is too illegal to beat up a hybrid car driver, for undemeanor and felony causes, such as abuse and no suport from a driver to other.

Hi, It%26#039;s all about having a healthy life style. Don%26#039;t believe peoples who say you can get fit quick by doing this or lose weight fast by eating that. For me, I try to run once or twice a week and maybe a session in the swimming pool. I ensure that I do at lease two sessions of cardio a week. you also need to watch your diet as this plays a huge part. Weight training is also important to tone up. Remember, if you want to add muscle bulk then lift heavy and increase you calorie intake. If you just want to tone then lift light and more %26#039;reps%26#039;. Do not starve yourself as this will NOT make you lose any weight or add muscle. I also perform Callanetics exercises http://www.CallaneticsExercises.com once to twice a week which really helps you tone up.

Hope this helps!

Additional advice from serious runners about my first 1/2 marathon?

I am running my first 1/2 marathon at the beginning of November (in Taiwan). TRAINING SO FAR: For the past 5 weeks I have been training for the 1/2 marathon (5 days a week...Runners World prgm). I still lift weights 5 days a week (only upper body). Ok? I started marathon training at the end of August so it will be about 9 weeks of marathon specific training (before that I lifted weights 5 days a week and jogged for cardio exercise 3 days a week). LIFE STYLE CHANGES: I have sucessfully given up little things like drinking beer, soda, and eating sweets. I%26#039;ve been stretching a lot, drinking lots of water, and taking ibprofen. QUESTIONS: I have an okay pair of running shoes that are getting a bit warn (soles and the begins of a tear in the side of my shoe). They will probably be okay until the marathon but not much longer. Is it too late to consider a new pair? Also, what other advice can serious runners give me so I will be as physically and mentally prepared as possible for the big day?

Additional advice from serious runners about my first 1/2 marathon?
Yes, there%26#039;s still time to pick up a new pair of shoes. So long as you%26#039;ve got a week or two to train in them before race day, you should be fine. If you like the shoes you have now, and if they%26#039;re still on the market, you could try just picking up a new pair of the same shoe you currently use. If you%26#039;ve found a good fit, stick with it.

If you%26#039;re following a good training program, you%26#039;ll no doubt be in good physical shape for your race. Here are a few things, though, that I try to do leading up to a race. 1) If you%26#039;re traveling to the race, arrive as early as possible to give yourself plenty of time to relax. 2) Sip water or fruit juices regularly during the day or two prior to the race to stay well hydrated. 3) Take a couple days off from training before the race to ensure your legs are fresh. 4) It%26#039;s not unusual to have trouble sleeping before a race....don%26#039;t worry about it. Remember that the amount of sleep you get two and three days before the race is more important than what you get the night before.

As for mental preparation, some people will tell you to tune out and focus on something else while you run. Personally, I feel the opposite approach is better. Stay focused internally .... form, breathing, pace, etc .... and ignore the crowds and other runners in order to run your best race. It always helps me to find a short motivational phrase, just a few words, that I can focus on at low points.

Good Luck!
Reply:YES to the new shoes today. As far as your training schedule, you don%26#039;t give any specifics about your mileage, so how%26#039;s anyone to give you advice?
Reply:Definitely go ahead and get some new shoes. They will make a world of difference and keep you from getting injured. As far as the race goes, your adrelanine will kick in at the start, so just be sure to keep your pace and not worry about everyone around you. Be sure you wear comfortable clothing (might want to put bandaids over your nipples). Eat a good meal the night before, but nothing heavy and get a good night%26#039;s rest.

How do I wash my dress shoes with cat pee on them?

My cat peed on my polyester boots. The only thing they are made of is the rubber sole heel and the polyester upper and lining. They are very simple with no natural material. I know how you feel. The most important aspect to me about a running shoe is the cushioning. I have always ran in assics and thought theses were the best, but I have not been impressed with how they have feeling lately. I just bought suconey triumph 4 and love them. What did male indentured servants in Colonial times wear -- clothing and shoes/boots?

I%26#039;ve researched this, but have only found clothing styles for middle and upper class men (and women). Given the expense of hosiery and breeches, it seems impractical to expect that a poor working class person would wear that (especially one working as a farm hand). I would think they would also wear sturdy work shoes or boots, but am uncertain what they would look like.

%26quot;The New Balance WRX505 is a women%26#039;s racing spike featuring a 6 spike plate and molded C-CAP midsole suitable for cross-country, indoor and outdoor track.

Product Details...

C-CAP® midsole provides cushioning and support

Rock Stop™ embedded into forefoot provides protection from sharp rocks and debris Synthetic/Mesh upper provides lightweight comfort and support...

6 Spike Configuration provides the best possible traction even on the most challenging terrain...

Aggressive Lugged Outsole gives maximum traction for off-road activities...%26quot;

Does this mean that i shouldn%26#039;t wear it for casual use? Would the rubber spikes be uncomfortable, or even damage regular floors if I walk in them normally? I really like the desing of the shoe, so does it really matter that it is made for track runners?

Women%26#039;s New Balance WRX505 is a track %26amp; field shoe...Can I wear it as my everyday casual footwear?
No, you can%26#039;t wear it as everyday casual wear, because of the spikes. Its like trying to wear cleats out. If you tried wearing them to just go out in, they wouldn%26#039;t be comfortable at all.

How can I wash/clean %26quot;Sperry%26quot; shoes?
For heavy soiling on white leather shoes (dress or athletic): For lighter stains, try rubbing with a non-gel toothpaste. For heavier stains, use either rubbing alcohol or nail-polish remover.

Apply with a cotton swab, then rinse. White-wall tire cleaner also works great, but take greater care when using this. It can only be used on leather.

Just spray on and let stand for 20 minutes, then launder shoes with light-colored towels.

Shoe problem!?

My peeptoes are snug around the toes and upper areas of my foot but are loose at the back at the heel. It%26#039;s really tough to walk with my shoe slipping off all the time. Any advice?

Shoe problem!?
either get an insole which will mean your foot is higher in the shoe and therefore the thicker part of the heel will be a tiny bit further up and fit the shoe heel better, or get one of those sticky backed foam strips that you attach to the inside of the heel. you get them all in chemists

Reply:Go to any local store like walmart target Ect. and they have this special plastic pads so your shoe wont slip they really work I used to have the same problem..
Reply:A shoe stretcher, or move to wide widths. Like I%26#039;m a 7W and if I get a 7 1/2 not wide it flops ni the back and is snug in the front.
Reply:Footpetals.com, they have everything. They make many different varieties, so look for the ones that attach to the inside of the back of your heel, that is what you need to stop slipping out.
Reply:You R right. In shoes always try to get comfortable one.
Reply:You didn%26#039;t mention if you wear them with hose or how high the heel is. I know a high heel worn with hose will make your foot slide forward and leave a gap in the back even if the size is correct.

I think in the Dr. Shoals area at your local Walmart or pharmacy, they sell a little pad that you can stick on the heel bed of your shoe that helps keep your foot from sliding. I wear them all the time. It really helps, even if you wear them with no hose. It%26#039;s a cheap fix that will probably help a lot.

What is the fuss over the sport of curling?

I think it is fun to glide across the ice on shoes and it does take athleticism as it takes strong abs(yes abs have other benefits then a 6 pack) to be a sweeper and you need upper body strength to push the rock. I%26#039;m talking about the stuff we do everyday or a certain part of us that we look at or are apart of everyday that it%26#039;s like no one knows the name of. I want to learn some of them! Like, for example, I know that the little half-moon on your fingernail is called a lunula, the indent part between your upper lip nose is a philtrum, and the end of your shoe lace is called an aglet. Anyone know any more?

Anyone know any random everyday words we should all know?
Here are a few:

-- The ridges on the sides of coins are called %26quot;reeding%26quot; or %26quot;milling%26quot;.

-- The ball on top of a flagpole is called the %26quot;truck%26quot;.

-- The side of a hammer is a %26quot;cheek%26quot;.

-- The loop on a belt that holds the loose end is called a %26quot;keeper%26quot;.

-- The %26quot;glair%26quot; is the white or clear part of an egg. The word glair comes from the Latin clarus, meaning %26quot;clear%26quot;.

-- %26quot;Corduroy%26quot; comes from the French %26quot;cord du roi%26quot; or %26quot;cloth of the king.%26quot;

How can you get rid of big half muscles?

I ran track %26amp; cross country for year, but I have now retired my shoes. Still I have huge calfs %26amp; I dont think its atractive because it doesnt balance out with my tiny upper body. Is there anyway to get rid of these muscles? is there anything I can do?

How can you get rid of big half muscles?
If your legs are proportional there should be no prob. I happen to love chicks with nice firm legs and a nice butt. But If they look like Popeyes Forearms then you really have a problem.
Reply:Work om the above the knee muscles and have the best legs around.
Reply:well from youre picture you look great... but how to get ride of you muscle, idk
Reply:Over time, muscles that were once worked excessively, tend to lose their size and strength because of the lack of high-intensity movement. So try not to stress. You can%26#039;t help it.

Personally, and as a fashion designer, legs are an important and attractive feature on a woman, and having toned muscle, implies health, just as a tan does.

Frankly - and no offense - I think you%26#039;re wrong. Your legs do not look overly muscular and neither does your torso look small, nor short, in comparison. If any of these things were an issue, the blue dress in your picture wouldn%26#039;t drape over your body correctly, and it would end up looking weird. Seriously, don%26#039;t trip; the legs you%26#039;ve got are ideal. The curvature of your legs will call more attention on the curvature of your bum, making you look more symmetrical. Have you ever seen Victoria Secret%26#039;s models calves on the runway? They don%26#039;t want normal, mediocre legs; they want beauty and health! Which means toned muscles, good skin and a bit of color.

If you still feel like they%26#039;re ginormous, try not wearing skirts that flair out too much, as they will appear to give more width to your lower body silohuette, while making your upper body look too thin.

But seriously, don%26#039;t trip.

What specific clothing should I have for a below-zero winter?

I%26#039;ve only lived in warm climates and I%26#039;m moving to the upper midwest in a couple of months. I%26#039;ve heard the first winter is tough until you learn what to wear and how to wear it. I would love to get a head start with some advice from people who have more experience than I. What specific kind of coat, shoes, socks, scarf, etc. should I buy once I get there? Any other tips to stay warm?

What specific clothing should I have for a below-zero winter?
Crazyhorse is wrong about the Gore-Tex.

Gore-Tex is a great waterproof/breathable material used to make winter coats that will keep you warm by keeping you dry and by keeping the wind from carrying away body heat but it has no insulating qualities whatsoever. It%26#039;s a great option for an outerlayer in wet or snowy conditions but you will have to rely on other garments for your insulation.

For insulation you have a lot of options. As a previous poster stated, stay away from cotton as it is the worst insulator especially when it is wet (and no matter how cold you may feel your body is always producing moisture). Good, wicking base layers made of wool, silk, poly-materials or any other advanced fabrics work great. A fleece layer is also very good to have especially if you can afford a windproof fleece. For outer layers, the warmest insulator, in my opinion is Down. The key to staying warm is trapping air around your body and that is how down works. Another great insulator is Primaloft One, which is a very light and warm. The benifit of Primaloft over down is it handles wet conditions better than down will, but if it%26#039;s sub-zero temps you%26#039;re dealing with it shouldn%26#039;t be too wet. For cold toes, again avoid cotton. A good wool sock will work wonders but don%26#039;t put on more than one pair. This is a common misconception. If you put on two or more pairs of socks you can actually make your feet colder as you will constrict circulation and good blood flow is a key element to staying warm. Last but not least, don%26#039;t forget a good, warm hat. Most body heat is lost through your head
Reply:Stay away from cotton. Go for the synthetic stuff, nylon, acrylic and polyester.

Cabelas is more known for hunting and outdoor sports like that, but they carry a wide selection of high quality clothes for the elements. The link drops you right into women%26#039;s clothing...assuming you are a woman.

I%26#039;m guessing you won%26#039;t be spending much time in the cold...just walking around outside your house, to your car, to your job and the store, etc. So you really don%26#039;t need to get too fancy. A good quality coat, hat, gloves (or mitts) and boots will be most important, and some sort of face covering. You might want a scarf, I never liked them personally, but my concern is skiing, which is different from your concern.

You will want to dress in layers, several high quality, thinner sets of garments, instead of one thick garment. This is good for several reasons, but for you it will be nice because your work place might be sweating hot, so you can peel of a layer or two after arrival.

Make sure the hat you get covers your ears. Some don%26#039;t.
Reply:Depends on how much $ you want to spend. You%26#039;ll have very cold temperatures and a lot of precipitation in the upper midwest, so I%26#039;d go with a parka that has Gore Tex, a material that helps retain heat, expel mpoisture from the inside, and repel rain and snow from the outside. You can get many parkas including Gore Tex, though it is pricey. If not then go with a high quality parka, some by Columbia are great and don%26#039;t cost as much, you can get good deals on campmor.com. For shoes you%26#039;ll want boots, and I%26#039;d recommend insulated ones that are also waterproof. Scaft, any will do, really. Gloves, go with insulated, or again preferably Gore Tex. Socks, you can get insulated ones, but really any will do as long as your boots are of high enough quality.

I don%26#039;t live up there, but I live in the Northeast where it tends to get somewhat cold, and also go skiing all over the country quite often. Good luck in the upper midwest!
Reply:For a below-zero winter, the specific clothing you should have is extremely warm clothing such as coats, socks, scarves, hats, pants, boots, mittens, and gloves. Also, you should have some thermal, long-sleeved underwear; tops and bottoms. These items will definitely keep you warm when winter comes, and they will also prevent you from frostbite and hypothermia.

Other tips to stay warm:

1. Find warm, cozy shelter.

2. Build and sit by the fireplace.

3. Cuddle up with someone by using body heat.

4. Drink hot beverages such as Hot Cocoa, Coffee, and Tea.

5. Turn the heater on.

6. Take exotic hot showers or hot baths.
Reply:Heavy poly blends for coats, hats, scarves, gloves...and heavy socks and snow boots for the snow and ice. Dress in layers of clothes to keep warmer. Also, mittens keep you warmer than gloves.

How do you call in English that accessory with spoonlike shape that helps you put shoes on? Help, please!?

I hope I am clear what am I asking for. It is an object that you put between your heel (back of your foot) and the inside back part of the shoe when you put shoes on. It helps you to put the shoes on without having to untie the shoelaces and then tie them on again when you put the shoes on or it helps you not to have to kneel or go down all the way with you upper part of the body to put the shoes on. It is clear what the question is, but I simply cannot explain this to the Internet dictionaries and I tried the best ones with keywords such as: shoe accessory, shoe put on aid object shoe put on aid accessory etc., but to no awail. Please, help!

Confused about boys' US shoe sizes?

My son is almost 9yrs old. His last sneakers were a size 6 in the upper kids sizes. Where do you go from here? Most kids shoe sizes stop at 6 or 6 1/2. The men%26#039;s shoe sizes don%26#039;t start until about 8 or 9. Is there something inbetween I%26#039;m missing...like a juniors or something? Thanks for the help.

Confused about boys%26#039; US shoe sizes?
There are the sizes in-between, there just aren%26#039;t a ton of them.

If you%26#039;re buying his shoes in a store that is a kind of catch-all store (Walmart, Target) or even a department store (Sears, JC Penney, Dillards, Goody%26#039;s), try taking him to JUST a shoe store. The people that work there are actually trained just in shoes, and they have a wider selection, because the whole store is shoes, instead of one little section.
Reply:I don%26#039;t know what store you are shoping at but Men sizes go much smaller. I believe I have seen 6 before.
Reply:My fiance wears a 7 1/2 in men. There are 7%26#039;s out there just harder to find. I would ask someone at a shoe store. I just bought my son 5 1/2 shoes for school. He%26#039;s 9.
Reply:no gap at walmart. They go from 1 to 13 there is no gap in sections that i noticed. My son is 5 years old and just hit size 1. I know it goes 0-13 in kids size then starts all over again with 1-13 again.
Reply:Go to a proper shoe store and use the foot measuring tool. Shoe sizes are chaotic.

Or download this

Might be better off ordering online if you know exact size...
Reply:I never noticed a gap in shoe sizes when I was younger... maybe it%26#039;s the particular brand or style of shoes that you%26#039;re looking at.

Just go to a decent shoe store where they%26#039;ll be able to size his feet %26amp; get you the correct size for your son. Most have shoes in just about every %26quot;regular%26quot; size you%26#039;ll need.

Can your empoyer force you to wear boots to work without helping financially?

I work for a certain parcel service that tells all of it%26#039;s employees that everyone needs to purchase work shoes. The definition they give for a workshoe is non-slip sole, leather upper, sturdy, and no holes or rips.(this is what is says in our contract). This definition defines more shoes than just a boot.So I wear tennis shoes to work, and I get harrased by management. If it said in the contract that everyone had to wear boots then I believe they would have to pay something to help all the employees financially, because it would fall under %26quot;uniform%26quot;,because they are specifically saying that you have to wear one style of shoe.

Can your empoyer force you to wear boots to work without helping financially?
They can force you to wear anything that they want and do not have to provide it in any way shape or form. You can however deduct said item on your taxes. They could even specify what clothing you needed to wear without providing a way for you to get it.
Reply:i agree with you that they *should* have to help with this... unfortunately, they don%26#039;t.
Reply:What nevyn said.
Reply:Yes,it can be made obligatory.
Reply:Yes. employers have the right to force upon you to for the security of their company or for the employee. Regarding supplying of Boots, you can request them to provide, but it is not your right. Some companies give every year, some do not give. it all depends on the management.
Reply:Your employer can make %26quot;Safety Shoes%26quot; mandatory. There are not required to pay any portion unless you are in a Union job and it is written in the contract that they pay.
Reply:Yes

Is there a software to try on different clothes?

I am looking for a software that will take pictures I have taken of my feet/shoes, my waist/legs/pants/shorts, my upper body/shirts/suits and head.

I am getting sick of trying on different clothes, it takes too much time. I would like to put on all my shirts and snap a picture, put on all my pants and snap a picture and all my shoes and snap a picture. Then load it all into a software and have it alterenate pictures in thirds. So I can virtually try on different outfits.

Does this make sense? I can do this in a photo editing software but it just takes more time. I think someone must have already thought about this.

Thanks

Is it possible to break or tear a vein in the back of your neck and then the blood runs down into your arm?

My mother, 86, said she bent over to tie her shoe, heard a crack sound in the back of her neck. She had pain and the blood ran into the upper part of her left arm. Her vein in the arm seemed larger also. She told no one at the time and the brusing color and soreness lasted for awhile.

I have never heard of this or anything close. Any information would be appreciated.

Yes, but kind of unusual. See it a lot in the leg veins.

Would see a doctor just to make sure.

Is there a market for edible shoes?

Me and my friend are setting up a website dedicated to edible shoes. It doesn%26#039;t have to be nice, and it%26#039;s not a culinary website... we%26#039;re thinking along the lines of www.hatsofmeat.com . It%26#039;s called www.eatmyshoes.co.uk . What ideas can people come up with for edible footwear? The rules: Must be made out of more than one peice of food (ie. you can%26#039;t just stick your feet in two turkey corpses), it must be based on a known type of footwear (usually involving soles and uppers), and you must state the ingredients, including (edible adhesives, etc). We%26#039;ve found the biggest problem has been in finding strong-enough adhesives. Tip: Adhesives will not work with wet foods. Stitching may be an option.

Is there a market for edible shoes?
that is very strange but try royal icing (used to hold ginger bread houses together)

Reply::-)))) What is your question: is there a market for edible shoes or what edible shoes ideas can we come up with?

It seems like you don%26#039;t need the answer to the first because you have already started to set up a web-site. And may I ask you: does it mean you have already done a market research and it showed that you will have customers for this?!

I think the best and actually most viable solution is to do basic sandals - thin, light sole with strings to tie it to the foot, or with stringy/carcas upper; and then attach various food items on strings or carcas. It%26#039;s better to use something nice like strawberries, raspberries, chocolate cake pieces, other fruits, etc, chocolate truffles. This can only be sold in fetish or sex toy shops I guess; or marketed as sex toys on your web-site.

Hope this is helpful! 10% from your annual sales, please! ;-)
Reply:cheese flavours!!

salami for the tounge, spag for the lace, bread - inner sole, cheese - main shoe ( cover the smell of feet!! ), fish skin - sole.

What shoes and clothes to wear to make legs look bigger?

I am a male and I wanted to know how could i make my legs look bigger? What kinds of shoes make your legs look bigger, and what kinds of shorts to wear? it seems like my upper leg is medium or average and my anlkle area is really skinny. What can i do? I really want my legs to appear bigger for the summer?

What shoes and clothes to wear to make legs look bigger?
general rule of thumb, if you are skinny, wear form fitting clothes, it will give the illusion of you being larger. you dont want to wear large clothes that drape over your frame.

wear boot legged pants. they fit nicely around the waist and then are larger down by the ankles. if you do decide to wear shorts, wear some that end just below your knees. if they go too far down all you will see is your skinny ankles. wear narrow shoes. it will give the illusion that your ankles are bigger.

ooohhh....you%26#039;re gonna get corns and bunions. I don%26#039;t think you should wear shoes that are a whole size too small. Not a good look.

How do i get the smell out of leather shoes?

I have a pair of leather shoes which i cant wear socks with(wrong style). Now unfortunatly the really smell and i dont know what to clean them with with out ruining the leather upper.

i tried bi carb soda in them for 2 days and that didnt really help much, so i tried scrubbing the inner sole with bicarb and water (synthetic sole) but that didnt really help either which leads me to believe the smell is in the leather, how can i get it out.

oh and i do have ourdor eaters in them yes

How do i get the smell out of leather shoes?
If odor eaters arent doing it then the smell is in the uppers. With synthetic soles and well polished and maintained uppers, they probably don%26#039;t have too much chance to breathe

Try filling them with scented absorbent cat litter overnight and then get in the habit of putting talcum powder (or powdered starch, or athletes foot powder) on your feet before you wear these shoes, to work as a sweat-absorbing barrier so no more gets into the porous underside of the leather.
Reply:baking soda should help soak up the odor. But, everytime you wear them, the sweat on your feet will wick into the leather, and just get them stinkier. Look a some dudes sandals, you know how nasty they get. Well, you are doing the same thing, but your feet are not airing out like if you were wearing sandals. It%26#039;s just gonna be nasty.

How do I sell my baseball cards?

I have so many baseball, football, hockey, and basketball cards that I don%26#039;t know how to sell. They are all mostly early 90%26#039;s cards, mostly Upper Deck brand. I probably have somewhere between 40,000 and 100,000 cards. Many are factory sealed complete sets, some are unopened packs, some are in 800 or 3200 count shoe box style, those that were worth at least a quarter in 1996 are in card pages, those that were worth 3-4 dollars or more are in individual card holders. I have a 1984 Topps John Elway in near perfect condition, I have Barry Bonds rookies, I have so many more that I don%26#039;t hardly know what I have. The problem I have is that I no longer am up on who are the sought after cards. All I want to do is get rid of them and will take half Beckett book value just to get rid of them. I just have no idea how to get rid of them but in a way that I can get at least 20-50% of their book values.

So, my question is what is the best way to sell and best way to list what I have?

How do I sell my baseball cards?
You have four main routes to sell your cards. Sell them yourself at trade shows. Sell them as one lot. Sell off your collection piecemeal. Consign your collection to a dealer who will attempt to sell it for you. In any event, a collection your size will take a bit of time to sort through and sell. Give up the hope you will get half Beckett for anything you have. The card market is much softer than it was a decade ago and if you truly wish to depart with your beloved collection, be prepared to humble yourself to the reality you may get 15 percent of what you feel its valued.
