How to run- Spiked?

I have got new spiked- running shoes as my friends have commented them to me to run with- I'm in 200m and 800m, my friends say you ahve to run with the upper-foot on the ground at all times ( in other words, never put your WHOLE foot down ) How are you supposed to run with them? Are they good for long-jumping?

How to run- Spiked?
Youwill be or should be using different spikes for the 200M and 800M since they ae 2 completely different events that require different technique.

Since the spikes are in the front of the shoe, sprinting spikes are light and will have no heel or a very thin heel you will be running on your toes, it will actually push you automatically on your toes or your achilles will hurt and you will get a sharp pain in them. Jump spikes have a heel and are more rigid than sprinting spikes so you will have some heel contact, distance spikes again have a heel but not as thick as jump spikes or not as thin as sprint spikes, as you won't be running on your toes for a whole 800M unless you are sprinting the whole way which only world champ/olympic class 800M runner are capable of for you it is would be very painful and uncomfortable.

Reply:Basically there are different types of spikes for sprinting, jumping, and middle distance running. Spikes cause you to land on the ball of your foot. You do not put the whole foot down on the ground. Even if you are running the 800 you should not run flat footed unless you are going slowly. If you have sprint shoes they will probably work for the long jump as well as the 200. If they have a slight heel then they are middle distance shoes and can be worn for the 800 and will work for the other events also. It is better to run with spikes than non racing shoes. The time difference between wearing spikes and jogging shoes is about 2 seconds per lap. Even though you are not sprinting the 800 as fast as you sprint the 200 you are still going much faster than a slow run.
Reply:you have to run on ur toes, and don't let ur heels touch the ground. it may seem hard at first but eventually you'll get used to it.
